The Human Prime
Chapter 57: Rage
Artemis looked around the barren moon base. Without the outer layer, the part that now made
up the Nemesis, it was pretty empty. She looked at the scanner, thinking it might have moved,
but the relic was still there. ShadowVolt shook his head, staring at some seekers leaking Dark
Energon from their lifeless husks.
“Let’s hurry up and get this thing, huh? This place has a lot of bad memories.” ShadowVolt
hinted, beginning to walk off.
“I agree.” She looked around at some of the leftover facilities. “I’m surprised there’s still
something up here.”
“The moon base was here long before Trypticon was.  Some of the facilities remained when
he separated himself from the moon base to become the Nemesis.” He rubbed the back of his
head, seeing only five buildings standing among the rubble. “But not many.”
“Come on ShadowVolt, it’s this way. I’ll feel a lot better when my peds are on Cybertron
soil.” She pressed forward, shifting into her regular form as she did so. Neither of them knew
they were being watched.
>Seeker POV<
Starscream watched the femme shift forms. He found that this form was indeed more familiar
then her previous one. He scratched his chin, watching them stroll into his territory without
realizing it. Thundercracker held Skywarp and Quickstep’s heads down, hoping they wouldn’t
make too much noise.
“They don’t seem to realize we’re following them, my liege.” Skywarp smirked, poking his
eyes above the rubble Thundercracker was holding him behind. “Should we strike now?”
“A superior leader would suggest to divide and conquer.” Thundercracker muttered, letting go
of the two hooligans.
“Well put, Thundercracker.” Starscream agreed, ignoring the defiance in his voice. He looked
at the two, Autobots roaming the rubble of the moon base.
“My liege, allow me to take on ShadowVolt for you.” Her head bowed low before him. He
smirked at the symbol of respect, slightly allowing it to inflate his ego. He gestured for her to
carry on. “I simply require an escort.”
“I’ll go.” Thundercracker sighed, “I have my own respects to pay to that traitor.”
“Well, done.” He looked over at Skywarp. “You and I will continue to follow the femme. She
will show us exactly what’s so valuable to have them squabbling over.”
Quickstep walked beside Thundercracker as they moved to get a better position on
ShadowVolt. She tried to recall the last time she interacted with the former assassin. She
wondered, even though she was so sure before, if she could be so aggressive towards her
former friend. She decided if she kept reminding herself of Starscream’s greatness and his
role in rescuing her, she could do anything she needed to.
“Quickstep.” Thundercracker, his optics drifting towards her form. “Will you be okay?”
“I’ll be fine. Just let me at him.” She growled, “For the glory of Lord Starscream.”
“Right.” He didn’t seem to believe her, or perhaps didn’t believe such reason was worth
fighting for. She had noticed his reluctance towards Starscream’s leadership to be rather
overpowering, but she never once believed him to betray the trust of his trine mate, if only for
Skywarp’s sake.
They activated their blasters, hiding behind a jutting pillar. Watching the two Autobots
proceed past them. Quickstep nestled under Thundercracker’s form, staring at her former
friend. With a nod and a shove, he coaxed her to proceed and they both revealed themselves
and began firing. The looks on their opponent’s faces were mixed. While Artemis’ face
showed no sign of shock, ShadowVolt was the epitome of surprise. His optics locked on
Quickstep’s as he dodged and returned fire.
“Quickstep, remember the plan, we need to separate them.” Thundercracker managed to
whisper under the blaster fire. She nodded in turned and began running towards ShadowVolt
with unmatchable speed.
Even though she could have done so much more, she simply shoved him. Pushing him as she
ran passed him several times without any resistance. It’s not like they could stop her, she was
too fast. She batted him around like a rag doll until finally he took off to the sky.
“ShadowVolt!” Artemis screamed up her partner, as Quickstep and Thundercracker
transformed after him.
“I’ll be okay, keep going after the key.” ShadowVolt called back before speeding off.
Quickstep was quick to stay on the Seeker’s tail. For too long, she wondered if ShadowVolt
was her friend of an ally. Today, she would put that to the test.
“ShadowVolt, stop running and face me! You owe me that!” Quickstep swerved around
Thundercracker and began a solo pursuit of the sneaky seeker.
>Artemis POV<
I forced myself onward. ShadowVolt was highly capable, and I kept telling myself that he
would meet up with me later without a scratch on him. It was the only way I could get myself
to press on without him. So, with the scanner in hand, I regained the trail and began walking.
It was difficult to process. The last time I was here, I wasn’t here. The last time I set foot on
the moon base was long ago, in a different dimension. Though, despite the different in
location and time period, it still felt the same. Dangerous, uninviting, cold. I could barely keep
my skin from crawling.
Perhaps this was even worse. Before, there were buildings, patrol scouts, and an evil lair that
stood out like a sore thumb. Now, it was an empty shell that screamed with the dark memories
of its past. I felt like I could hear the terrible screaming of defenseless Cybertronians being
experimented on without rest. I thought I could hear their silent please to die before the pain
became unbearable. I wasn’t sure if I could actually hear them, or if it was my guilt ridden
conscious for not being there.
I was acutely aware that my existence was brief. The war had raged on far before I was alive.
However, I couldn’t help, but wonder if there was a way to go back in time and stop all of it
from happening. We had traveled across dimensions, and while we failed to top the war, we
saved so many innocent lives. Surely there was a way to repeat that success.
“Without our failures, we wouldn’t have our success.” A familiar voice called to me in my
head. I sighed gratefully, enjoying the company on this lonely rock.
“Primus, why must you always speak to me in riddles? Would it not be easier to go right out
and say it, for the both of us?” I looked around at the echoing remains of the forgotten city. I
was surprised that there were more and more structures the further away from Cybertron I
traveled.
“Without my failure to defeat my brother on Cybertron, the Shared of the Matrix and the
thirteen primes would have never been created. Without Alpha Trion’s failure to protect the
vaults of Iacon, he would have never sent the relics to earth. Without Optimus’ failure to
eradicate the Decepticons, he would have never traveled the galaxy-”
“And wound up on Earth. So, I am the production of failures?” It was odd. I did not feel an
ounce of shame knowing that fact, instead it seemed almost fitting.
“You are the production of despite cries for hope.”
“Whose cries?”
“The cries of my children.” Primus’ heavenly voice descended into silence once more.
“Some cry.” My optics gazed over the husk of a fallen warrior. A Decepticon shield carved
against his chest. “Some roar like beasts.”
“It is all the same.”
“I don’t get it. You told me to rid the threat that is threatening your people. Is Megatron not a
threat?”
“He is, but he wasn’t always as such. Circumstances breed conflict and in turn can take root in
as something far more dangerous.”
“I refuse to believe that Megatron was a victim of circumstance!” I gridded my denta and
stood in silence. “No, perhaps that’s ignorant of me. There is still much I don’t know about
Megatron’s past…Both Megatron and Optimus.”
I continued forward without Primus’ guiding words. I ended up at a crater where the last few
solid structures stood. My deduction was this was where Trypitcon’s spark had laid before it
was ripped from the moon and made into the warship. The structures that remained were
severely warped, curving away from each other. However, when I stepped inside, I wondered
if they were instead built that way.
“Can’t be that much further.” I could see the small dot on the radar beeping rapidly. The
pulling in my sparked, too, signaled the close proximity of the relic. “What on earth happened
here?”
The walls, while solid, looked melted and the stairs to the next floor were completely
destroyed. The building curved at an angle which made me slightly nauseous. As the building
began to open up, my quest let me to an entry way leading outside. The door was melted and
twisted and required quite an effort for me to push through. As I strolled to the middle, I
noticed the structures had all melted together in the middle, the tops of the building spiraling
together near the top leaving only a small opening for the light to shine through.
“Ah, there you are.” In the center of the clearing was a pod. It stuck in the ground firmly, but
showed no signs of scratching. I bent down in front of it, carefully extracting the artifact.
“Hello, beautiful.”
“Hello, Autobot.”
>Seeker POV<
ShadowVolt maneuvered around rocks as best he could. Staying as close as he could to the
ground in hopes they would lose him, but they stayed on his tail. He wasn’t positive of what
on earth Quickstep was so angry with him about. Though, he could take many guesses. As he
was nearing a rather open area, he knew he would be a sitting duck to their missiles. The best
course of action would be to fight.
So, without another thought, he turned towards them and transformed into his bot form. He
fired at Thundercracker, forcing him to take to the ground where his wings would not help
him. As he drifted toward the ground, ShadowVolt closed the distance between him and went
in for a strike.
Thundercracker however was no fool and, in switching modes, caught ShadowVolt’s attack
and pushed him away in a single motion. Quickstep landed as well and, unlike
Thundercracker, played to her strength in mobility on the ground. She moved in close and
delivered rapid fire kicks against his torso. With loud groans, Shadow took them and waited
for an opportunity to strike back.
“So what is it, Quickstep? What is it you wanted to tell me?” ShadowVolt groaned and
stepped away from one of her attacks.
“I don’t want to say anything. I want to pound you into dust!”
“I sense unresolved issues.” He ducked beneath her catching her leg so that she wouldn’t be
able to kick again.
“Enough of your tricks. Face me! Stop running around!” She struggled against his grip, but
due to his height, she could not get a proper angle on him.
“You want me to just stand here and take a beating? Doesn’t sound very honorable to me.
Thought you wanted a real fight.”
“I do!”
“Why?” ShadowVolt dropped her when Thundercracker moved in for his own attack. He
dodged them, taking to the sky once more but heading straight upwards.
“Thundercracker, look what you did! Now he’s running again!” She was going to follow him,
but he stopped her.
“Our mission isn’t to terminate him. Simply distract him long enough for Starscream to get
the relic.” He found himself ignored as she shoved his servo away and took to the sky. As he
feared, the femme was letting emotions get in the way. While he wasn’t completely sure of
the situation she was in, he hoped she wouldn’t go too far.
Quickstep swerved around the Autobot Seeker, looking for the best angle to take him down.
He was faster than her, if not from his thruster capacity than from his tight maneuvering. She
couldn’t keep up with him for a long period of time. However, he seemed to slow down
whenever he was just about to get out of view. She hated the feeling, but she was sure he was
taking it easy on her.
“Damn it, ShadowVolt! Why won’t you face me? Why won’t you face what you’ve done?”
As if on cue, he dropped to the ground, landing on the ground rather roughly and turning to
face her. She landed and cautiously approached him. She had failed to realize that she had left
Thundercracker behind. She wasn’t sure if this was on purpose or if it was a happy accident.
She couldn’t wait to get her hands around his throat.
“Quickstep, I won’t know what you’re talking about unless you tell me.” He frowned, arms
extended as if asking for a hug. There was a time she would have happily fell into those arms,
but now. She knew now that nothing would let her return to that state of mind. It was all about
blood and vengeance now.
“How dare you! How dare you saw that! You ruined everything! We were a family and now
it’s all over. You took it all away from me! How could you do that?” She screamed so loud
that her vocalizers grew sore. She felt her body shake violently in place.
“Me leaving the Decepticons was purely personal. But so was joining them in the first place. I
don’t regret leaving, but,” He frowned which made her wince for just a second. “I am sorry
what me leaving has done to you.”
“You don’t get it! RazorMane turned on me! It’s all over. I can never look at him, ever again!
He killed me; I was left to rot in some dungeon! Where in the pit were you?” She screamed
louder and this time, her body was restraining itself from pouncing and killing him.
“Quick…I didn’t know.”
“Yeah, well you’ve sure made attempts to figure it out.” She frowned. “You abandoned me.
You abandoned all of us. You let us rot. Why should you get a happy ending?”
“This isn’t about happy endings. This about doing what’s right.” ShadowVolt paused, looking
back towards whist they came. “And I think even you know that this isn’t right.” He
repositioned himself, extending his fists towards her. “If you need to take your frustrations
out, here’s your chance.”
“With pleasure.” Quickstep was already on top of him, slamming her fists into his helm with a
vicious fury. Without any other consideration, she went for the spark.
>Artemis POV<
“Scrap!” I screamed, dropping the key and watching it skid across the ground. “Starscream!”
My wings flared out, a beastly response of intimidation. It worked on Starscream, he flinched
and withdrew himself. I did not count on another visitor however.
“Poke!” My helm was smacked with an open palm, a quick weight emerged on my back and
quickly disappointed. I turned towards the voice and found a purple and black bot holding the
Omega Key.
“Skywarp.” I hissed, pointed my blaster at him. “Drop it.”
“Ah, ah, gotta catch me first.” Skywarp chuckled, disappearing before my eyes. I grunted and
looked up towards the small opening above. It was their only way out. I extended my wings
and flew speedily towards the skylight. As expected, Starscream and Skywarp met at the
opening to exchange. Just as Starscream was about to get a hold of the key, my arms scooped
it up and I flew high into the sky. “Hey, no take backs!”
“Ah, ah, gotta catch me first.” I screamed down, my face planted with a smile. I looked off
into the horizon, but was distained when I found no sign of ShadowVolt. Without another
thought, I took off into a particular direction.
They were on my heels, screaming after me without much thought. I knew attempting to lose
them would be a wasted effort. As Seekers, they could find my again without even batting an
optic. However, rendezvousing with ShadowVolt would allow me the advantage I needed to
scare them off.
I dreaded the sound of that click. Starscream locking on with his missiles, ready to fire at any
moment. I looked back at him, seeing his rockets lowered from their place on his wings. I
knew he was going to try and shoot me down. I steadied myself in mid-slipstream and when I
heard the beeping of the targeting system, I dropped down towards the disheveled buildings.
“Scrap,” A missile grazed my wing as my feet touched the ground.
“Oo, oo, so close. It’s like scraplet hunt! Let’s see who gets her first, my lord!” Skywarp
chuckled as I braced myself from the debris.
“Shut up, Skywarp!” Starscream snapped as he circled around and took aim again. I shuffled
my feet against the surface of the moon and aimed my blaster to the sky, returning fire with
one hand while the other clutched the artifact securely. I felt my face flush, as I was certain I
wasn’t going to get out without a few casualties.
Skywarp had begun firing as well, the ammo pelting me like a hailstorm. I knew it was just a
distraction, but the burns it left against my armor were too harsh to ignore. I turned towards
him to return fire, but found Starscream moving quick on the offensive. He moved his second
missile into position and was about to let it loose, but a stone caught against his tail-end
sending him into an aerial spin.
“ShadowVolt.” I sighed in relief, seeing the blue and grey aerial bot. He ran up next to me,
holding his arm as it brushed against him lazily. I believed him to be wounded, but he brought
the arm up into a fist.
“Did you miss me? I mean I know it was a bit touch and go, but don’t count me out that fast.”
He chuckled, flashing me his million dollar smirk. “Let’s shake these guys and run, huh?”
“What about Quickstep? What happened on your end?”
“Oh,” his voice cracking a little. “That’s right. I hope you don’t mind, but I brought a little
company.”
A dust cloud behind him proved his words to be true. Quickstep was right behind him,
chasing him down. ShadowVolt rubbed his arm slightly before turning to get in a defensive
stance. Starscream had landed, his minion Skywarp close behind. The echoing of an engine in
the distance signaled that Thundercracker would also be joining the fight rather soon.
“So, what the plan coach?” ShadowVolt adjusted his stance. He was working closer to the
Quickstep who was getting ready to strike. I knew that she was bent on revenge towards him,
having them fight would not be the best option.
“Switch.” I whispered, folding my wings around my arms and drawing my sword. We moved
together, brushing passed each other as we stormed towards our opponents. Quickstep
growled as she tried to get passed me to get to him. I blocked her with my sword, moving in
to grab her. Just as my digits were about to make contact with her armor, she jumped back.
“You want to get in my way? Fine, I’ll take you down too.” She growled and was soon
dashing around me with insane speed. I had forgotten how fast she was, how blinding her
speed could be. It wouldn’t have been a problem. I could catch her like I did before. If only
Thundercracker hadn’t shown up and was attempting to overwhelm ShadowVolt.
“Thundercracker!” I screamed, pushing Quickstep off me as she came in for a blow. “Party is
over here. Deal with me before you start bullying a grounded flyer.”
“I do not plan on leaving either of you unattended.” He reached out towards me, his claws
pointing towards me. I couldn’t understand what he was doing, but I couldn’t sit back to find
out, not with this femme pounding down on my back.
I drew my blaster, pointing it at him with hesitant arms. He did not flinch, but instead held an
intimidating glare. I couldn’t wait for him to strike, but I couldn’t wait for him to change his
mind either. I fired my blaster and felt my stomach drop the moment I did. He was smiling.
A bluish hue surrounded him as the blaster fire came within inches of his body. The blast was
absorbed against the shield, flickering as it was distributed around him and then concentrated
back to one point, the tip of his extended digits. The blast formed again and, with a screaming
boom, was fired in my direction.
I threw myself on the ground, Quickstep stopping short of being blasted herself as it grazed
by. It hit the ground maybe a mile away, busting into a vibrant explosion. I gawked back at
Thundercracker, his smirk never leaving his face. Decepticon technology had gotten the better
of me. I never thought Thundercracker would be equipped with a sky boom shield.
>Autobot POV<
ShadowVolt watched in horror at the distant explosion. His battle against the other two
Seekers was put on pause, if only to admire the red and orange hue of the blast. It only made
it more obvious that the battle would need to be ended quickly.
He looked over at Artemis as she rose to her feet. She seemed to be okay, but had deactivated
his blasters. She would need to keep her fight at close range that way not to risk
Thundercracker using his shield again.
“Hey, hey. Volty.” He glared back at Skywarp who was hopping in place, alternating peds.
“Don’t forget us, don’t want to make this boring. Do you?”
“No, Sky, I’ll make sure you remember this battle for a long time.” ShadowVolt drew his
blades carefully before leaping towards the black and purple bot. Of course, the tricky flyer
teleported away, but left his leader to take the blow. His blade made contact with Starscream’s
chest, giving off a loud shriek.
“Skywarp!” Starscream stepped back, holding his chest with a grim expression. It wasn’t deep
enough to draw energon, but it was a close call.
“Sorry, boss.” Skywarp had an equally grave expression. He knew he messed up.
ShadowVolt could see the panic in Starscream’s optics as he shifted his gaze between his
subordinates.  He was about to advance, taking advantage of the Seeker’s disorientation, when
he could hear Artemis scream in agony. He turned to look and found that Quickstep had
landed a kick right in her wounded wing. Thundercracker had slipped the artifact from her
and began to walk casually towards Starscream.
“Artemis!” ShadowVolt ran over to her, trying to uncurl her from the ground.
“My lord.” Thundercracker hissed, but handed the key over to him. Starscream smirked,
holding it in his claws tightly.
“Seekers, our job is done here.” He ordered them away. Quickstep did so more reluctantly
than the others, but had went to her master nonetheless. Suddenly, Artemis regained her
composure, but not her common sense.
She drew her blaster, firing upon Starscream with added vigor. Starscream stood in shock.
Forgetting all about his followers handy device, he grabbed hold of the nearest thing he could
find to shield himself. A scream pierced the air as a body hit the ground from a fatal wound,
but it wasn’t Starscream.
“Quickstep!” ShadowVolt screamed, watching the Seekers take off in the sky. They left their
comrade bleeding on the ground, barely able to scream for help. Artemis stood frozen. She
didn’t have the heart to take off after the Seekers. Her spark and her mind were focused on the
slumped body cradled in her comrade’s arms. “Come on, open your optics! We’ll get you to a
doctor and you’ll be fine!”
“ShadowVolt.” Artemis whispered, moving over to him slowly. His body was shaking as held
her closely to his chest. He continued to shout until she draped a servo over his back.
“ShadowVolt…I’m sorry. She can’t hear you.”
ShadowVolt allowed her body to touch the ground. His digits drifting over her optics to close
her grey orbs. Artemis grabbed her arm, still feeling the tingle of the blast that had left her
arm. As soon as she let that blast fly, she wish she could take it back. It was too late now. One
Cybertronian was dead, whether it was ally or enemy.
“We’ll bury her now. Then meet up with the others.”
“No.” ShadowVolt shook his head. “We bury her in Vos.” He rubbed her helm softly. “She
deserves to go home.”

"Autobots, stand your ground! We must not let the relic fall into enemy hands." Optimus
defended himself against the rapid fire of the Decepticons. The lightning assassins proved to
be difficult opponents, not giving in inch as they tried desperately to get closer to the
unknown contents of the pod.
"Drexel, Bumblebee, go for it!" Artemis suggested as she returned fire. The two bots nodded
to each other before transforming and speeding towards the relic.
"Do not let them get that relic!" Mira ordered, feeling pressured to deliver something to Lord
Megatron.
"Quickstep!" RazorMane shouted to his teammate who nodded and went for the capsuled
relic. Drexel sped past the yellow scout and transformed. He skidded and gripped the pod in
his servos. As he jerked back to return to team, but Quickstep stepped in front of him to keep
him from them. She kicked up high, knocking the capsule from his arms and then kept him
from retrieving it himself.
"Pop fly!" Qu

I am sure that you have a lot going on in your life right now, but this story has always been a favorite of mine. I’ve been reading it over and over since I first discovered it three years ago. I an very curious as to if it will continue. I love your writing style and Artemis’ relationships with the autobots (especially Optimus).
